The plot narrates the trips of the Gran Circo Teatro Americano through the northeastern hinterland. In the city of Aracati, a play about crisis in hell is put together. The plot, inspired by Brazilian Cordel literature, is centered on the arrival of the bandit Lamparina in hell, and Lucifer's participation in international capitalism.
