


Multiplication and division for 3rd Grade. Kids are introduced to multiplication and division when they come in the 3rd grade. They have now enough capabilities to grasp this new concept. The kid must have a strong base of the numbers. Having a strong grip on numbers will be essential for the kid to make multiplication and division easy for them. Since it is just the start the kids are not asked for any big multiplications. Mostly it the kids have only memorized the tables of 2 and 3. Therefore the multiplication is also kept limited to a small level. This also gives the fact that the kids must know the tables at least 2 and 3 to give them a head start. Being good with the tables will make the multiplication and division a lot easier for the kids. Therefore, it is necessary that the kids are first taught the tables. When they start multiplying and dividing they will also understand the concept of tables and how they are actually made. How to teach multiplication and division to the kids of 3rd grade Before you start teaching the kids you must understand that each kid is different and will take a different amount of time to grasp the new concepts. It is very important that you teach with patience and give each student the attention they require. Some kids might be a little slower than the others, give them the time and the extra attention that they need, and they will soon learn everything. Don’t put too much pressure on the kids. So now what are the steps to teaching multiplication and division? 1. Start with the basics Start with the very basics. Introduce them to the basic concept of multiplication and division. Introduce them to the symbol of multiplication and division. 2. How to write The next concept would be how to write the numbers when multiplying or dividing. The basic rules are that the number being multiplied is written on the top and number with which it is written on the bottom. The multiplication sign is written on the side. Similarly, define the rules of the division to the kid and teach them how it is written. 3. Slowly start with the easiest numbers Now that the kids are familiar with the rules and basics of both the processes, now they can start with some numbers. Start with the easiest numbers, like 2x1 or 4/2. Keep it simple and easy at the start so that the kids are better able to grasp the concepts much more easily. It is the responsibility of the parents and teachers to make learning easy for the kids. Make it fun for the kids. You can also use some toys and blocks to make it more fun for the kids because kids love what they find fun.
