They learn the basic concepts of geometry too like length measurement. In the first grade, everything is kept to basic. Even in the other subjects, the kids are introduced to the very basics of everything. The concepts are kept easy and interesting for the kids. Use some toys, cubes or anything else to make the concepts clearer to the kids. Also, the kids would enjoy what they are leaning and when they enjoy they learn the best.
