Summer 1996. In the summer of 1996, in the Mecklenburg village of Woserin, the external signs of reunification are by no means as clearly visible as in other places in the former GDR. One night the half-ruined castle burns down there, killing the mute Gustav. This is reason for the fisher boy Mark, together with his friends, to track down the secret of the Cormorant Island, which has been a closely guarded bird sanctuary since the end of the war. With detailed detective work, by questioning eyewitnesses and by studying documents intensively, the children find out that the landowner at the time killed the Polish foreign worker Igor in 1944 while fleeing from the advancing Soviet soldiers. Everyone knows about it, but it's only now being talked about. Also about the fact that the count's treasure played an important role in what happened.
