Perennial patriotic song, “Vande Matram”, receives a contemporary and infectious treatment through the musical composition of Siddharth Kasyap and the additional lyrics from Shakeel Azmi as the track expresses profound gratitude towards mother India. But that is not all; “Vande Matram” speaks about the appreciation of being an Indian as the feeling of patriotism for the country is the ultimate emotion for any citizen, especially with India deeply ingrained within every inhabitant as the motherland stands for respect, pride, glory, and dignity. Originally released during Republic Day, this evergreen song is sung in the distinctive voice of Roopkumar Rathod, and ably supported by the versatile Madhushree Bhattacharya, who has previously sung in the languages of Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu, having been trained in classical and western genres. “Vande Matram” features the sitar of Ravi Chari, the shehnai of Yogesh More, and the guitar work of Troydin Gomes and Abel Zeliang. Also featured is the talent of Iqbal Warasi, who plays the rawanhatta, an ancient bowed, stringed instrument, often considered as a progenitor of the violin. Nevertheless, it is Siddharth Kasyap’s dramatic reading of “Vande Matram” that is the centre piece of this musical integration of these tremendously talented instrumentalists, and shows the immense maturity of the composer’s commitment to both, musical nuances and to the nation.
