With the admitted influence in his life of one of the finest pairs of Bollywood music directors, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, composer Siddharth Kasyap has created a strong, yet intricate melody for “Kya Batayein Tumko” wherein lyricist Iqbal Qureshi captures the vacuum created between two people in love who find themselves separated from each other. The pain and suffering that follows this emptiness results in a desolation that cannot be cured. “Kya Batayein Tumko” further discusses memories being created – and cherished – as the loving couple announce their undying love for one another. In all this, the sentiments revive the age-old proverb that says “absence makes the heart grow fonder”, which precisely describes the feeling of greater affection between lovers who are kept apart by fate. “Kya Batayein Tumko” is marvellously sung by Rishikesh Kamerkar, who is fast becoming a Bollywood singer, and Bengali singer Saberi Bhattacharya who, together, enhance the song by lending their melodic voices. The magic of pianist Merlin D’Souza is firmly established too by her slowing the tempos and leaving more room for vocals, but composer Siddharth Kasyap’s melodic style remains atypical of his amazing talent. This song is certainly more hybrid than any compromise of musical styles, and “Kya Batayein Tumko" has a sinuous feel that makes for imminent pleasurable listening.
