I remember when I wrote this song, I had this constant visual of me driving on the Phase 8 Main Boulevard in the middle of the night. The blackness of everything, where you can see only as far as the beam of your headlights permit you. I have countless memories of that road. Coming back home with friends from a night out, laughing away, while Travis would be bumpin’... sometimes with the person I’ve loved, holding hands, or maybe trynna sort shit out... and sometimes, just alone. When I bounced the first mix of the song, I immediately got in my car and blasted it away on the phase 8 boulevard. I wanted to see if the audio had translated the visuals in my head... if I was feeling what I felt in my imagination... and then I shed a tear. It was a bittersweet tear. I was sad but kinda proud of how I had used this post break up depressive-broken-self-esteem phase of mine to carve out this sound, with and through such emotion. I try to create music from a very real place. I try to be very honest with my craft. It’s the only thing that’s truly been there for me. And so, if the entire purpose of this track was to encapsulate the memories of those nights I’ve driven on the phase 8 boulevard, imma do that and transcend with y’all.
